sharing time

I wanted to show you my  last few pics of my girl’s birthday party.  And p.s.  if you read this entire post there will be a surprise at the end!

My neighbor showed me a neat trick for making these fruit bouquets.  Insert a wedge of iceberg lettuce in the pot.  These were fun to make.  I wish I had bought more pineapple, and the strawberries also had blueberries on the skewers that helped them from slipping down the stick.  The kids loved it and of course they ate it all!

I also made these huge tissue paper flowers.  They hung from the ceiling over the counter where I had the food out.  My husband thought that I bought them, what a kook :)

Remember the theme of her party was dogs.  So I ordered this simple cake with a dog bone on it.  The plastic dogs we already had and had been through the dishwasher.  I was going to put them nicely around the perimeter of the cake, but when the girls saw what I was up to, they decided to assist me!

And here is was I made for each little girl to take home with her.  A little scottie dog.  My girl even helped me add the stuffing.  It was so sweet for me to get to make them with her.  She named her dog “Frisbee”!  Gotta love it.

And here is your surprise… I made an extra little dog for you!!  Yes, you can be the proud owner of your very own frisbee dog.  Just leave a comment for a chance to win.  This giveaway will end on Sunday night.  Thanks and pass it on!

a little pink

This is the last one of the baby bibs, for now. I am adding it tonight to my etsy.  Well I am trying to any way.

I am having a few problems with my pictures being the right size.  This hasn’t happened to me before, so I must check it out, and get it figured out.

That is why you get to see it here first.

This is the last little bit of this vintage fabric that I have left too.  So no matching burp cloth.  Sorry!  I might be able to make just one little matching appliqued onesie.  If you’re nice to me :)

i left my heart

One of my personal goals has been to vend at a big craft show in San Francisco.  So I had a little celebration, when a few days ago I learned that I was accepted to be a vendor at Bazaar Bizarre.

It is being held at one of the most beautiful spots in San Francsico at Fort Mason.  Right on the water.  And in December the weather should be perfect.  Well really, who knows!  It’s SF and the weather is always a favorite topic of discussion.

Luckily I only live 1 1/2 hours away.  And even more lucky is that my hub and kids are coming with me!  Now to find a cheap inexpensive hotel.  Wish me more luck!

p.s. to see more about the goings on see the flickr group here.

mr ed’s animals

So I managed  to make it to one of my local thrifts again!  I think my house is already full of stuff.  And I tell myself not to buy anything more.  But how can I not!  Thrift shops have the best stuff.  And there is always something that I cannot live without.  I bought another chair.  Don’t tell my husband :)

Truth is, I do end up buying more things for others than for myself.  I can find some great Christmas presents.  And some pretty great books for my kids.

Have you seen this one?  Apparently I am the last person on the planet to hear of Ed Emberley.  I googled him just this morning and found out all about him.  Mr. Emberley even has a cute website of his very own!

This book was published in 1970 as a Scholastic Book.  How did I miss seeing it then?  I paid 75 cents for mine.  I gave it to the wolf artist.  And the first thing he checked for was to see if there was instructions for drawing a wolf.  Yes!  There were 2 – Wolf and Wolf Running.  I was saved, he liked it!

I think I now want to try my hand at taking some of these images and translating them into some applique and hand embroidery.  Maybe I can add wolf running on a t-shirt for my boy.  He can always sleep in it.

wonky class

I taught my 2nd class at The Tin Thimble last Saturday.  And the girls that came were just the best!

We started the class with a big pile of scraps.  Ready for us to all dig through.  I felt like I could remember where every little piece of fabric came from!

Everyone was so generous with their fabrics that I think I came home with more than what I left with :)  Not my plan, but I got some cute new fabrics, thanks to Brianna.

Each quilter took a different path on their wonky quest.

Some were random, some were steady, some were a little sloppy (that would be me).

But my favorite part of the day was seeing everyone’s work completed.  We all used mostly the same fabrics.

But each quilt came out so different.  As unique as each quilter is, so was their quilt.  Thanks girls for coming!  I hope to see you at my next class.

finding my balance

My 3 are all back to school now.  I am still wondering how to fill my days!  I used to laugh when people would ask me that. I thought I would sew from sun up til sun down.  At least until 2:30 any way.

It has been 5 days. I am still trying to find my balance.  I wonder what is to become of me?

Then I remember that the thrift shops are open.  I can go to them and shop for the things I love and need.  Not having to worry about what my kids love and want and have to have.

My back seat still feels empty. But now I have room for my junk!

wolves

My boy loves wolves. I have no idea how this came about or why. But he just does.

Which is really great. I love it when they have a passion about something.

And this is what the wolf thing is, an intense love of all things wolf.

He even draws them.  He was sitting at the dinner table last night after he had finished eating and was doing a new sketch.

I thought he needed some more wolf inspiration.  More wolf art to keep his imagination going.

So here I am sharing some of my etsy favs with you.

What is your favorite animal?

small world

I ran out of thread on Friday.  And I couldn’t get to the fabric store until today.

Such a bummer.

Especially since I had this fantastic fabric all ready to go.

I bought it in Houston when I was visiting my sister.  And all this time I didn’t know what I wanted to make with it.  Then all of a sudden I just knew…

Burp cloths. I know simple right.  This vintage fabric was already precut when I bought it.  And they were just the right size.

I wish I had yards of it!

doily envelopes

Do you remember the doily banner that I made? Well I did have some doilies left over from that project.  So I wanted to show you what I did with the extra’s.

Again, cut your doily in half.  These were 6″ in diameter.

Get out your glue stick!  Apply the glue to the solid paper portion of the doily.  It’s not necessary to use too much glue.

Carefully insert the doily into your envelope.  Just so you can see the top of the doily.  Carefully fold over the flap to create a crease.

After you have left the glue to dry insert your tiny envelopes.  And you are almost done!

Don’t forget your cute dog postage stamps to go with the doggie themed birthday party!

party girl

I am in the midst of party planning!  My girl will soon be 6 year’s old and would like to celebrate by having a doggy birthday party.  I found the perfect vintage cute invites on ric rac and buttons.

I decided to add just a touch whimsy.  So we sorted out a few of these little vintage flowers and got out the good ol’ glue stick.

My girl liked the green hearts and daises.

She wrote the party guest names on the envelopes while the glue dried.  And since these are small invites we had to then insert these cards into larger envelopes to mail.  And that I will show you tomorrow!

Thanks for looking!
